GCPP objects to STX deal

PDF Print E-mail

The Great Consolidated Popular Party, GCPP, has added its voice to those opposing the government’s deal with the STX construction firm.

The party whose founder, the late Dan Lartey, popularised the term "domestication" in Ghanaian politics says the government would be doing a great disservice to local contractors if it goes ahead with the deal in its current form.

Its general secretary Ali Adam, in a statement asked the government not to award the contract to the Korean company.

“Our main concern is that if government can support a foreign company to raise all that it has to take for them to be able to build this thing why not our local industries?

“We believe that we also have the technical knowhow and our engineers are capable,” he said.

He cited the Dansoman and Teshie Nungua Estates as evidence of the track record of local contractors and appealed to the government to take a second look at the deal with STX.
