EC lauds registration exercise

PDF Print E-mail

“I think the exercise went very, very well contrary to the fears expressed by people that the World Cup will take the interest out of the exercise.”

He said every registration centre they visited showed that “patronage was very, very good”.

He said there was no shortage of “essential materials” like registration forms and films.

The exercise was initially fraught with complaints of inadequate logistics as well as claims that people from neighbouring countries were crossing borders to register in the Western and Upper East Regions.

In reaction, Mr Owusu-Parry said the commission received only one report from Elubo in the Western Region where foreigners from the neighbouring Ivory Coast attempted to register. But they were prevented from doing so, he said.

“Elsewhere it is only speculated that people from other countries were attempting to register but those ones could not be proved,” he stressed.

EC's Satisfaction
Bernard (80.87.92.xxx) 2010-06-27 11:55:29

Is the electoral commission satisfied with the just ended exercise? What about the alleged reports that some people have trooped from neighboring Burkina Faso to register and who organized them? After the exercise there were reports that some people could not register due to long ques and shortage of registration materials. The Bawku Central MP called for extension in his area was it done? Was is not legitimate when there was care-few? Is that what they call satisfaction?
